Paradise, Koh Yao Noi
Will this be the promised 'Ultimate Island Paradise'?
We nabbed a great re-opening deal via Luxury Escapes (in July 2020) for Paradise Koh Yao, which included 2 nights, (for 2 adults 1 child), breakfast, a 30 minute massage each plus a long tail snorkeling tour - all for the fantastic price of just 5,600 bht!
After the mini bus transfer to Yacht Haven, organised by Paradise Koh Yao, we were ready for the hotel speedboat. They had quite thoughtfully not completely filled the boats to the brim, and there were only 5-6 people in each one. So off we set on our spacious boat ride, and soon we were rewarded with glimpses of Phang Nga bay.
We docked at the hotel pier, beside a sandy private beach dotted with hammocks and sun-loungers, looking peaceful and inviting. Some people headed straight for the adults only Tree Tops resort just next door, but with our 5 year old in tow no such luck for us! We headed across the beach to reception. . a good start, everything looked beautiful. We were offered a refreshing drink at check in and were told the room wasn't quite ready, but we were fine taking in the tropical beauty.
When we got to our room, (Island Oasis Superior Studio), it still wasn't quite ready; the staff were fixing the TV remote and just turning on the fridge, so the mini bar drinks were warm, but no matter they would be chilled by later. The room was perfect for us, with a large double bed plus separate singe bed with white mosquito nets around them, a nice outdoor / indoor shower area and outdoor seating area with swing seat.
We headed to Seafood Terrace for lunch, which was the main restaurant there and lovely to be able to sit with the sand between your toes whilst you ate, (Al Fresco was closed which was understandable as they had literally just opened a day or 2 before we arrived). We ordered the Thai Noodle Salad with Seafood and Club Sarnie to try, then I began snapping away madly taking pictures of the menu for reference. It was pretty vast so there was definitely something on there for everyone, and kept me quiet for a white!
Happy Hour (or 2)
We visited Sundowners for the beautiful views, relaxed setting and of course to indulge in a good old happy hour(s) which were served at 5-6 pm and again at 9-10 pm daily. At this time you can make the most of half priced cocktails for just 150 bht. They also serve bar snacks, and had a boat you can sit in which my son thought was fabulous!
To Snorkel or Not?
We made the most of the included long tail trip, and headed out late morning to enjoy a few hours exploring Koh Phak Bia. An enjoyable trip, although really not much snorkeling to be experienced sadly. There is a cute restaurant on the island, but it was still shut at the time of our visit in July 2020. As this is a National Park area make sure you have cash to pay the 300 bht per adult / 150 bht per child entry prices. All in all, we were glad we experienced a little trip out, even if the snorkeling wasn't quite there.
We enjoyed our complimentary 30 minute massage, and I had every intention of using the spa at another point, but as usual on 2 night trips the time slips away from you. I can say that the spa looked delightful though and you should make time if you can. We were also lucky enough to experience some of the islands' inhabitants - including a few Hornbills flying across just before sunset and this little fella right beside the stunning lotus pond which made my son's day:
I would highly recommend making use of the kayaks too. We paddled around to explore Mankei Bay, which was a nice and easy 10 minute row, with a few little hidden coves to enjoy too. This was definitely worth doing and felt like a little unspoiled adventure, which we had all to ourselves.
The Bottom Line
+ Beautiful outlook and location / Included long tail trip / Happy hour at Sundowners / Wildlife and natural beauty / Terrace area beside room / Helpful and friendly GM, Mark / Great value deal for 2 nights / A la carte breakfast
- The price of food and drinks was a bit high / There was some confusion around original booking but this was because they were just re-opening in July 2020
The Deal - Special offer for July 2020 via Luxury Escapes, 5,600bht for room and breakfast for 2 adults 1 child. They currently have a special offer if you book before the end of September 2020 for stays up until March 2021, which you can see here.
