Nai Harn Here We Come
Updated: Sep 22, 2020
Crazy good discount, but will it be worth the risk in the name of a bargain?
My excited 5 year old and I arrived early and obviously super keen to make the most of our budget adventure at the Utopia Nai Harn; perhaps my driving was a tad fast as we were there at the ready by midday. Well, I say we were there, but not everyone managed the missing part of the road on Google maps so well. Our travelling companions (a good mummy friend with her twins) made a later entrance after an hour of driving in circles around the hotel. Needless to say I decided I would take on navigational duties after this point!
What Does 1,300 bht Look Like?
We had booked a Tropical Suite room at the super price of 1,300 bht including breakfast for 2 people. As we checked in the staff were polite and had no issues with our early arrival so we were promptly taken to our room - next to our friend as requested. We were given the choice of breakfast in our rooms or restaurant, which was a nice touch.
I was happy to find the room clean and far more spacious than anticipated, with separate living room, kitchen area with bar seating (fridge, microwave, hob and stocked cutlery and glasses). The bathroom felt new, with a large walk in shower and all the usual amenities provided. We got ourselves unpacked and headed to explore the different pools and areas before deciding where to set ourselves up.
Where Two Become One
So this was a little odd; Utopia Nai Harn is right next door to Utopia Lofts. Seems normal so far right? However, it gets a bit strange when you have to walk down one driveway to the road entrance of that hotel, then you have to to walk back up the driveway of the next hotel to get to the other facilities. Not a major issue, just not well thought out - but who are we to complain with this excellent bargain we were experiencing, we were far too busy exploring, even if the link between the two buildings was missing.
4 Swimming Pools + 1
We were surprised by the facilities - access to no less than 4 swimming pools between the 2 hotels
With so much choice, we finally settled on the slides pool with rock formations whilst waiting for our friends to arrive. There is another more kid friendly pool which wasn't opened up yet due to some problems so 5 pools in future to pick from is pretty good going.
The hotel manager, Khun Ya came out to welcome us and couldn't have been more helpful. He offered to turn the slides on the minute we got there and was polite and easy to deal with. I asked him what time check out was for the following day and he immediately responded that it was usually 12pm but we could stay until 3pm, no problem. It's so nice to get this sort of friendly, personal service vs 'computer says no' response. By this point our friends had joined us at the 'slide / rock pool' and we enjoyed the next few hours relaxing whilst the kids had a blast.
We then decided to change scenery and spent the late afternoon at the pool by the main lobby. This had a swim up bar, and although it wasn't officially open staff were more than happy to bring out drinks menus for us (cocktails were on 50% discount, and beers buy 2 get 1 free).
Khun Ya popped by and I took the opportunity to tell him how helpful and professional the reservations team were on FB messenger. I then asked which room type we were sitting near (the ground floor rooms by the lobby pool) and suggested that if I came back I would probably book these. Khun Ya promptly suggested that we could swap to this (upgraded room) with no extra cost and if we went up to shower before heading to dinner the rooms would be ready in 15 minutes for us. We were feeling very lucky and grateful as we headed up to change and repack before being shown to our new Tropical Plantation Suite with direct pool access.
As you can see the layout was similar to the other room, but was definitely more spacious and light with floor to ceiling glass doors leading out to the lobby pool; oh and the bed was huge and very comfortable.
The main restaurant currently shuts at 6pm so we opted to go to Nai Harn beach with the kids for dinner (a 5 minute drive away). After a drive around the beach area, it was so sad to see the vast majority of restaurants shut down, but we did find a little gem called Sea Breeze right by the beach on Philipp Spanagel Beach Road. It had a white washed look and sand area with outdoor tables which the children happily played around in.
The following day, we all enjoyed a full spread for breakfast (you could order a la carte from a varied menu with Thai and continental choices) before making the most of our time by the different pools prior to a quick and convenient check out. All in all, a great value, family friendly and fun stay in Phuket.
