Chilled Vibes at Wilson's, Rawai
Updated: Sep 22, 2020
Where meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians mingle
Wilson's Cafe was easy as pie to find, plus has the added benefit of plenty of signage outside, so there is no doubt you have reached the correct place. After the obligatory graffiti wall photos were done and dusted, we headed inside to escape the heat and secured the large corner table for our Beach & Butter breakfast crew.
Wilson's has been on my list for a few years, so I was delighted to finally get there and check it out for myself (it opened in 2016). I was drawn to it because it prides itself on being all about clean and natural foods, loaded with as many fresh veggies as possible. Next time I will bring my pooches because they have a pet friendly outside deck area, which gets bonus points in my reviews!
So, what is Wilson's all about? Well, underpinning their menu are 3 key values which are frankly hard to come by here in Thailand, but oh so important:
No refined sugars
Made fresh to order
An eclectic collection of nic naks and beach themed items combine to make for an interesting vibe
Open Your Eyes!
When you step inside you are greeted to a mixture of cute, quirky, eclectic, shabby chic. . however you want to put it, there was plenty for you to feast your eyes upon. We arrived pretty early at around 8am on a Saturday morning - there were already a few tables there, and it was getting busier as we were leaving around 9:30am.
A Hungry Bunch
Coffees and fresh juices ordered, we all started browsing the extensive food menu. There were a fair few favorite options we could have gone for, which gave us all high hopes for a return visit. The kids fought over the 'call for service' button on our table, and we ordered away, (we were hungry campers after a night at Roost Glamping).
Our full order came out within around 15 minutes, and everything looked tip top as you can see above. Our table guests knew the drill and didn't dare touch their food until I had photographed each dish and got my notebook at the ready. Here's a run down of our order:
* Chocoberry Bowl - Cacao powder, acai berries, banana, dates, roasted Brazil nuts, chia seeds and dried coconut: 160bht
* Smashed Avo - Classic smashed avocado with sun-dried tomato and feta on a pan fried baguette with poached egg and side salad: 185bht
* Buttermilk Stack - Fluffy pancake stack with maple syrup on the side
* Eggs Benny Salmon - Classic eggs Benedict, fresh English muffin with smoked salmon, smashed avocado and side salad: 180bht
* Gluten Free Me - Gluten free pancakes with berry compote, seed and nut mix, all natural bio yogurt: 160bht
You can also browse more menu items here.
Prices were reasonable with all dishes under 200bht, and all but one was a big hit. The 'Smashed Avo' was fantastic, and my favorite with the combo of feta and sun-dried tomatoes a winner. 'Gluten Free Me' was huge and an interesting idea, plus it's always nice to find gluten free options. The only slight criticism was the 'Eggs Benny Salmon' - there was a tremendous amount of sauce, and perhaps the extra amount could have been put into a small jug as not everyone is a fan of quite that much Hollandaise. So overall definitely a hit and we plan to return for sure when back in the area.
The Bottom Line
Eclectic, beach vibe setting in Phuket, serving clean and healthy food (vegetarian and vegan options also available), which still delivered in the taste department. Happy to report they are pet friendly, and dogs are welcome in the outside deck area. Oh, and a fun graffiti wall for Instagram photos too.
